In response to the growing local NYC coronavirus outbreak, Brooklyn Track Club will immediately suspend all official weekly practice sessions and events until further notice - Starting with tomorrow’s Thursday Team Tempo run event.
This necessary step comes in light of recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as well as New York State leadership to limit large group events, as we have seen with the cancelation of the NYC United Half, the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade and the suspension of the NBA season. In making this decision we are guided by two goals: (1) to protect the health of our members, friends, and neighbors; (2) to do our part to help slow the spread of the virus in our community. It is important to note: our Brooklyn Track Club community extends throughout all five boroughs and several states; Although no member of our community has been affected by the virus, for the time being, we are making this decision to help avoid bringing such a regionally diverse group of people together while there are still so many unknowns. I am aware that some may disagree with the timing of this decision, and that is understandable, I ask that you contact us directly with any concerns. Finally, during the last few days, the CDC and NIAID, have made it clear that we all must start taking steps to limit the potential impact this outbreak will have on our healthcare system. We hope the vast majority of our community will not be affected by this outbreak, we can, however, start to make decisions that will help protect at-risk populations. Make sure to:
