As a child from Queens with infinite energy, Walter first stepped to the track as a sprinter. He lost nearly every race, until a patient college coach taught him to marshal that energy over longer distances. Over the long, loping cross country courses, Walter was unbeatable, and ran his way to CUNY Cross-Country Champion his senior year of college. In 2016 Walter continued his running with BKTC, “I was lucky to find this great group and coach to keep my running spark alive and fun”
After being mentored and learning from many different coaches, Walter received his USATF Level 1 Certification and began his passion for helping other athletes find their running niche. He began to coach for the company Central Park Coaching, under the head coach and his long time running mentor Coach Sean Fortune. From there he took a role as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field coach at The Hewitt School, in the Upper East Side. He coaches girls ages twelve to eighteen, and teaches them to marshal their own infinite energy across races, seasons and years. While he’s coached them to their best team finishes in the past 3 years, his greatest coaching accomplishment--according to him-- is that he’s never coached an athlete to injury.
“Excited to grow my coaching with BKTC and pass on not only the knowledge I have acquired from the years of running and coaching, but also inspire and keep the spark alive in other runners as BKTC did for me.”
