Steve Finley is a runner, coach and community organizer. A former professional runner at Nike Oregon Track Club Elite who has coached or instructed at all levels of the sport.
Before competing professionally, Finley was a student athlete at the University of Virginia competing for 4 years for the UVA track and field and cross country programs. After completing his undergraduate work as a Cavalier, he spent his final year of eligibility in Eugene Oregon racing for the University of Oregon where he was a NCAA All-American, PAC 10 Champion and USA Outdoor National Finalist in the 3000 Steeplechase for the Ducks.
In 2015, Finley joined the Nike Running and Nike NYC teams as a Run Club Coach where he consults on and helps lead running related community building and training programs in the five boroughs of NYC.
In 2016, Finley co-founded Brooklyn Track Club to bring professional level coaching and services to the local running community. Hitting 300+ members in 2019 BKTC strives to innovate on and off the practice track to deliver to the community and its members a truly unique experience within the sport. Heading into its 4th year, BKTC supports a full coaching staff of industry experts, multiple live weekly sessions, a dozen annual training journeys, team partnerships with local and national companies and a continuous experience schedule educating and bringing to life local, national and international moments in sport for aspiring runners based Brooklyn and New York City.
In 2017, alongside the Nike Running team he helped co-create Nike Project Moonshot NYC, a 16 week holistic marathon training program for fall marathoners striving to balance the demands of work and family life while maximizing their athletic potential. In year one Project Moonshot served 150 marathoners, seeing incredible success across all pace ranges. In 2018 the program grew to 250 marathoners and grew again in 2019 with 365 fall marathoners.
Outside of coaching, Finley has worked in the NYC beer industry since 2014, beginning his career at Manhattan Beer Distributors where he managed restaurant, venue, bar beer and wine sales and money collection in the East Village, Lower East Side, Chinatown, Bowery and Little Italy neighborhoods of lower Manhattan. He currently manages sales and marketing for Peak Organic Brewing Company in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Finley resides in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.
